Is
Obesity A Symptom of Sexual Abuse?
The
weight battle is ongoing and
those with the struggle win for awhile and then lose. Why is it that
they take it off and put it on? What is causing such fluctuations, such
frustration? If that is your challenge, you are not alone. Is it
possible your weight issue is directly, or indirectly related to an
earlier sexual abuse?
Sexual abuse seems to sport residual symptoms that the abused has no idea they are a prisoner to. They know something is wrong but have no idea what. Research shows we cope with situations in our lives differently. Cigarettes, alcohol and drugs are sometimes used as an outlet for overwhelming stress. In the same way food can be a comfort to a sexually abused child, or the food can be used by the abused to increase the body’s weight to protect it from a predator, like the blow fish which when attacked swells to prevent being swallowed up by its enemies of the sea. Examine where you are with your food intake. Is it causing obesity? Do you find it hard to get your weight under control? Stop using excuses! If an abuser focused on your body, how good you look, in your mind those comments could be perceived as “destroy” so it never happens again. Why? Because the body brought this on you. That is not true but one may blame the body for the act done. Was it the body, or some person who made a choice to take advantage of a child sexually? It was the person. You were the victim.
